Azeri Scholarship Workshop, London

Levant Education organised a workshop last week (March 5th) bringing Azeri government officials and 35 UK universities together to learn more about the Ministry of Education scholarship programme, and how to improve cooperation between universities and the government.

As we revealed in November last year, the number of Azeri scholarships is on the rise, with a 70%  increase in funding from oil & gas revenues meaning the number of scholarships from Azerbaijan will increase to cover around 600 students from September.

During the workshop Sirus Rustamov and Muzhdat Hasanov, from the Azerbaijan Ministry of Education Department of Foreign Relations, outlined how the programme was progressing, how students were fairing and how university international & admissions offices could improve communication and cooperation.

Mushvig Bayramov, Deputy Director of the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan, gave a presentation about how oil & gas revenues were facilitating the government’s plans to increase quality and capacity of Higher Education in Azerbaijan.

The event in London was the first of 2 events focussing on Azerbaijan organised by Levant Education. In November 2013, UK universities will again travel to Baku for an exhibition and further Ministry of Education meetings. The London workshop produced a number of useful pointers for UK universities and November’s UK Education Tour will build on these.
